Case study: Applying old structures in new ways

Reducing the day-to-day burden of recording and maintaining central master data at AG

Comparis became known for its comparisons of health insurance funds and is currently the leading provider of comparison services in Switzerland. Comparis is part of the Decisis Group and employs over 100 people. Its product range includes search and brokering services in the areas of insurance, car/motorbike, real estate, credit, health and pension funds, as well as general price comparison services.

Efficiency, transparency and competence

Over the last few years, the group has acquired and founded additional firms and continually expanded its offer. There was therefore also an increased need for reporting, performance measurement and internal accounting with ABACUS to be dealt with efficiently and transparently. Those responsible were seeking a partner with a solid, networked commercial approach and a high level of practical competence with ABACUS.

Adjusting the old, accelerating the tried and tested

With a new client, Comparis wanted to revise old structures and reduce the day-to-day burden of recording and maintaining central master data. An additional aim was to ensure that accounting for services within the corporation could take place at the touch of a button. Those responsible were looking for a system that enabled them to maintain a clear overview of the current financial situation at all times.

With PwC, we have found a partner who has successfully helped us to implement a cross-company ABACUS system. Given the time-critical starting position, they accomplished the task in a timely manner with a pragmatical and solution-oriented approach.

Marcel Isler, Group CFO AG

Comparis commissioned PwC with the implementation of this plan in October 2014. Time was pressing, because the new client needed to be available for day-to-day business as early as January 2015.

Expanded range of functions

Following a thorough phase of analysis and planning, a project emerged based on the young ABACUS functionality "Enterprise and enterprise-wide booking". In addition, this also covered tier-based reporting, budget comparisons, forecasts and project and corporate invoicing.

Everything in one solution

Our consultants defined and structured the complex processes and requirements and incorporated them into the architecture of the new solution, which was a crucial factor in its success. Thanks to strict project organisation and motivated employees on both sides, it was possible to complete the project on time.

The comprehensively integrated system considerably reduced the amount of manual work. Almost all internal service accounting was automated, since ABACUS books the same business case for each of the two lines of service.

Modularity as a driver of efficiency

On top of the existing modules of finance, accounts receivable and creditor accounting, Comparis has now also acquired the project management module for the new client. For this reason, no external interfaces were necessary, which noticeably reduced the project's duration and costs.

Clarity at the touch of a button

The clearly defined planning phase, many years of experience and networked approach of PwC all meant a carefully considered structuring of the application. Now Comparis can produce assessments and reports across various hierarchy levels in aggregated form. The work involved in maintaining the system is minimal.
