Case study: The many dimensions of trust

Implementing planning software to take the budgeting process to the next level at PDAG

Challenge

Psychiatrische Dienste Aargau AG (PDAG) analyses, treats and cares for mentally ill people of all ages. Whether treatment takes palce on a stationary, day-clinic or out-patient basis, the clinic’s individualised approach guarantees that the specific type of treatment suits the patient as well as his or her situation in life.

Upgrade for the budgeting process

For budgeting and reporting purposes, PDAG was on the search for new software. The service wanted to replace the existing Excel planning tool with a system that functions more efficiently, precisely and promptly. The structure also had to be fully flexible because the budgeting process always has to be capable of accommodating or portraying special cases.

The many dimensions of trust

The existing system offered too little transparency – accordingly, there was a lack of trust in the figures. A further problem was that the responsibility and hence also the know-how for budgeting was concentrated in just a few individuals. The new system had to be operated by less-experienced PDAG employees who would be expected to generate highly detailed budgets quickly without exhausting mental acrobatics.

PwC was always there in a heartbeat to help us; our dialogue was efficient and timely. We were trained so well that, today, we can handle many issues independently.

Solution

At PDAG PwC introduced a solution in keeping with the principle of “As much as necessary – as little as possible!”. The CP Suite by Corporate Planning is perfectly suited to this purpose: it offers a reasonably high degree of transparency and rapidly generates reliable controlling figures.

Driven by myriad parameters

A particular challenge for the new solution was posed by the vast array of differing parameters that the clinic faces due to internal and external requirements. With Corporate Planner, that matrix can be easily incorporated into the planning process. Thanks to the integrated budgeting tools, PDAG employees are now able to draw up with ease reliable scenarios and forecasts.

From partner to partner

Aside from the CP Suite as a technological cornerstone, PwC also lent support to PDAG managers by delivering a huge cargo of know-how and experience. PDAG’s planning and budgeting team were trained so that they now can make minor system adjustments all on their own. If external assistance is needed occasionally, PwC stands ready at all times to lend a helping hand.
