Meet Liv, a Recruiter and working student at PwC Switzerland. Balancing her role in recruitment with studying, she shares what it's like to grow at PwC while shaping a career that reflects who she is.
My name's Liv, and I was raised in Zurich - I'm absolutely obsessed with my city. My roots are in the north, Finland to be exact, and my best summers have been spent in the Finnish woods, eating blueberries and enjoying ice baths and saunas.
I joined PwC Switzerland as a Recruitment Coordinator early in my career. Before that, I completed my apprenticeship and worked at a large insurance company. I also had the opportunity to become a flight attendant. But I chose PwC, which was the best decision I could have made.
Now, I'm a working student, balancing my recruitment role with working towards a degree in psychology. The two complement each other in a lot of ways, and my day-to-day work gives me real-world context for what I'm learning.
I love all the opportunities I've had to get involved beyond my day-to-day role. Every Tuesday, I lead a sports course in the office called PML (Pumpen mit Liv) - everyone's welcome. It started as a way to bring people together and work out, and now it's become this energising part of our week where colleagues from different teams show up, have fun, and build connections outside of client work.
I also have brilliant memories from the office parties and our yearly football tournaments, where we compete against other PwC territories. The friendly rivalry, the team spirit, the shared goal of representing our office - it all adds to that feeling of being part of something bigger.
It's hard work at times, but doing both has taught me discipline and resilience. I want to be the best recruiting partner for my business line, and I also want to perform well while I'm studying.
I've learned a lot about prioritisation and time management, and about what I can realistically achieve in a day, week, or month. I've learned to plan ahead, to communicate clearly when I need support, and to be flexible when things don't go exactly as planned. These skills are things I'll carry with me throughout my career, and I've learned to appreciate the variety it gives me each day.
I'm a people person, which makes recruitment feel like the perfect fit for me. As I continue my studies, I'd love to combine my recruiting role with work that advances mental health in the workplace - an area I'm specialising in.
For me, thriving at work comes down to our surroundings and mindset - and having the right support in those areas. It's easy to overlook this. That's why I'm focused on making an impact in this space so my colleagues can feel supported, valued and empowered to do their best work.
"Embrace every challenge as a chance to build the skills that'll take you further. Focus on the long term - every experience adds to your growth, so give yourself space to learn, to experiment, and yes, to make mistakes."
Build trust with the people around you through consistency, doing what you say you'll do, and being honest about what you know and what you're still learning. When you create those genuine connections, you'll find the support, mentorship and collaboration that will carry you forward throughout your career. The momentum you create early on will set the tone for everything that follows.
