Why is flexibility in our complex work environment important?
Being part of a highly process driven company, we are likely to stick to the status quo and don’t think enough outside of the box. It’s important, though, to keep a certain amount of flexibility to collaborate more efficiently.
This enables us to push boundaries and be more creative in finding solutions to everyday challenges. It’s all about being proactive and finding the windows of opportunity within the given parameters.
Putting this into practice also nudges others to do the same resulting in a more successful community of solvers.
"It’s all about being proactive and finding the windows of opportunity within the given parameters."
How do you lead by example and why do you think that’s important?
I consider myself lucky because I’ve always worked with people who have led by example. Seeing others not just talk the talk but also walk the walk inspired me to do the same.
Leading by example for me means being authentic and bringing your whole self to work. Learning from others but also being in the driver’s seat when it comes to my development is crucial and I hope to pass this mindset on to my colleagues and be an inspiration to them.
Just recently we’ve adapted the Global Strategy “Be a part of The New Equation”. What general skills are important in our constantly changing work environment?
Nowadays, you need many skills in an environment like ours, but trust is inevitably the most important one. Meeting up in a team environment that’s built on trust, you can come up with brilliant ideas and find solutions much more efficiently.
Openness and curiosity are crucial too. When you're open minded and a good listener, unexpected situations can shape towards areas you never imagined you’d discover.
Which PwC value can you relate to the most and why?
I appreciate all our values but the one I can relate to the most is “working together” on all levels and in all kinds of settings. I appreciate meeting up with colleagues spontaneously in the coffee tower and providing advice, if needed. Being proactive and sharing your best practices with a project group like I did with “The New Equation” is also a great way to collaborate.
What I also appreciate a lot is the culture we created during lockdown: we adapted working together in a digital world very quickly and turning the camera on to see everyone is a given. This makes collaboration easier and more exciting for everyone.
