Cardiovascular disease remains one of the most pressing health challenges in the Netherlands — driven by an ageing population, lifestylerelated risks and persistent inequalities. Despite strong policy ambition, gaps in early detection, fragmented regional networks and limited data interoperability continue to slow progress.
In our latest publication — jointly created with The EFPIA Cardiovascular Health Platform and the Dutch Association of Innovative Medicines — we explore how the Netherlands can scale prevention, early detection and integrated care models more effectively. The report also highlights how the new EU Safe Hearts Plan can reinforce national action through its Europewide targets for reducing premature cardiovascular deaths and expanding preventive health checks.
The analysis outlines four strategic priorities for building a more coordinated and equitable cardiovascular health system: improved prevention; integrated care and financing models; enhanced data infrastructure; and multidisciplinary, patientcentred care.
Explore expert perspectives and actionable recommendations for achieving lasting, systemwide improvement.
