Yves-André works 100% as a Manager in Assurance, in Geneva, and tells us how to strike and reach the right balance. Read on to know how:
How do you “Be well, work well” and how do you strike a good balance?
Whenever the work load and stress take over, I, too, have to remind myself to take some time off and focus on my well-being. I then get out of work and spend some time with my family. It is important to take some time off and reenergise. Even during the busy season, I take some time off and do not work in the evening, to do some things on my own and disconnect from work. I always return the next day with new energy and motivation to work. Not only your health, but also your work profits from being relaxed and having a clear mind! I myself tackle difficult tasks best when I am feeling good. I also dedramatise difficult situations to reduce stress and then, calmly, try to find solutions. The well-being of a person helps in the process of finding solutions at work and being motivated overall.
What is your best advice to improve well-being?
Our company gives us the opportunity to work flexibly and we should take advantage of that. Yes, there’s a lot of work to do, especially in the busy season. But we have the opportunity to get off work early, do something else, and log back in to the laptop later, if that helps us to balance our energies. We can work flexibly, we don’t have to be dedicated to work all the time, we should make use of the flexibility at PwC and structure the day at work the way it suits us best.
How do you reach balance?
It is important to find a personal well-being activity or hobby, that allows you to completely disconnect you from work. You should pursue the activity at least two to three times a week, or, if possible, even every day. For me, it’s spending time with my children! It’s the best feeling to come home from work and talk about each of our days.
What's your favorite PwC value and why?
My favourite value is “Work together”, because at PwC you need to be a team player and embrace the collaborative work with others. It’s a great feeling to work with others and accomplish goals together. This creates strong bonds within a team and supports a great work atmosphere. Experiencing people enjoy working with others really is a pleasure to behold!
