Travelling taught Estelle to step out of her comfort zone. It empowers her to go aheader in Financial Audit and in her private life. Get to know her story:
How did your passion for travelling start?
When I was very young, I travelled with my family across Europe and North Africa. My parents shared their love of adventure and discovery with me. 12 years old, New York was my first big trip, and later I brought my grandmother to New York and Thailand. In 2017, I did a university exchange programme in Toronto, and then spent 5 months travelling in Canada coasts and the United States. In 2018, I backpacked through rural Vietnam and travelled to Japan. In 2019, I discovered the volcanoes of Indonesia and took a 5000-kilometer road trip across Africa.
Can you name some unique moments during your travels?
Unforgettable moments, to name a few, were: hiking to the top of Fujisan… my first 4000m peak on a glacier… a horse safari in Zimbabwe where I met a leopard 10 meters in front of me… hearing the sound of hippos all night long in the Okavango delta in Botswana… sleeping under the stars in the Namibian desert… an old Japanese sushi master preparing the best sushi ever simply because he enjoys talking to young Europeans… planting rice with Vietnamese women… sliding down a 120m stunningly beautiful waterfall in remote Indonesia.
What did you learn while travelling and how do you apply it at your job in Financial Audit?
Travelling taught me to be more confident, to step out of my comfort zone and to better react upon unexpected and stressful situations. I’m always up for a new challenge.
In Financial Audit, I can take ownership of my development and career. I gain experience across a broad range of clients in core finance-, systems- and process-related audits and different projects, teams, industries. The innovative development programme allows me to deepen my knowledge and expand my network, and to drive my personal growth with an individual training schedule.
Learning to challenge - but also trust - myself has been really useful at PwC, not only with clients, but also with my team. We rely on each other's abilities and I’m sure this makes me a better and trusted member of my team at Financial Audit.
