Your colleagues have nominated you as an exceptional “transformation” role model, for encouraging the implementation of our Hybrid Flexible Model in our work life. Why do you support this model?
Our Hybrid Flexible Model is our new approach to meet our people’s developed expectations – while, at the same time, deliver outstanding, high-quality work for our clients. In a nutshell, this new way of working enables us to work partially at the office and partially at home depending on our preferences – unless we’re at our clients’ premises, which is of course always the priority. We know that everyone has individual responsibilities – both at work and in their private life. It matters to finalize your work in good quality – and, of course, on time! If those requirements are met, it shouldn't matter at what time of the day you are doing your tasks. I, personally, for example, used to go jogging either very early in the morning, or late in the evening. Since our Hybrid Flexible Model has been rolled out, I choose other options, as long as they fit into my day. When working from home, I have started to go jogging at midday as a break, which is a big contribution to my individual work life balance.
How does the team collaboration benefit from this new model?
In my team, but also all over our firm, we have seen that the motivation level has risen much higher. People enjoy that they can make room for breaks in the fresh air, maybe going for a walk mid-day, rather than staying glued to the laptop for many hours. The new model has given us the possibility to make our personal flexibility a higher priority, and the new setup allows us to make a better use of it. Of course, we always check in with each other – a successful collaboration within this new way of working can only happen, if we keep our calendars up to date, keep each other informed – and, of course, do not miss important meetings. For us, it was clear that we would not have breaks or go jogging at any time we were required to be present or had work to deliver.

What’s your tip for keeping the team spirit high within the new Hybrid Flexible Model?
As said before, we have some implicit and explicit guidelines on when people should be generally available or be able to connect with each other. For instance, we have daily catch-up calls. During these check-ins you should be open for any questions in the same manner as if someone would walk over to your desk in the office. Yes, it’s a commitment, but I think this shows others that you really care about your team. Those seemingly small gestures and rules enable great collaboration and a sense of belonging.
And how do you make it possible to respect individual needs of the team members and run projects effectively?
As I lead large projects and therefore and a big team, it is a bit easier to integrate individual interests and preferences more flexible. Establishing clear guidelines, rules and values at the beginning together with your team will help you to incorporate personal but also your client’s needs to ensure effective work. I’d love to see our colleagues all over Assurance moving towards an exchange on their flexibility needs, but also towards a greater collaboration mode, which would make flexible teamwork run even smoother.
What is your favorite PwC value and why?
I would say our value “Care” is always important, but also, I’d take that as a given as value. The value, which I try to live up to the most is “Reimagine the possible”, because I'm very focused on transforming our projects, trying to do evolve our ways of working, to do things differently and more efficiently. I also try to inspire others to use technology and create a bigger impact with it.
