Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in Europe, placing sustained pressure on health systems, economies and societies. Despite decades of progress, declines in cardiovascular mortality have stalled in several Member States, while inequalities in outcomes persist across and within countries.
At the same time, policy momentum is building. The EU Safe Hearts Plan has created a new opportunity to strengthen prevention and early detection across Europe. In this context, cardiovascular health checks are gaining renewed attention as a practical policy tool to identify risk earlier and support timely, coordinated action.
This report provides a comprehensive, evidence‑based assessment of the clinical, economic and societal value of cardiovascular health checks, drawing on recent European literature and real‑world programme experience.
