Successful Deals with PwC: Mabuchi Motors Co, Ltd. acquires Electromag SA

Our Corporate Finance team is pleased to announce the acquisition of Electromag SA ("Electromag") by Mabuchi Motors Co, Ltd. ("Mabuchi"). PwC Japan and PwC Switzerland acted jointly as exclusive financial advisors to Mabuchi.

Electromag is specialized in the design and manufacturing of brushless direct current ("DC") motors. Key applications include ventilators for hospital care, home care, and handpieces for dental care. Founded in 2003 in Lausanne, the company has been able to rapidly grow and create a strong brand name in its sector. As Electromag's brushless motors are used for respirators in intensive care, the company's sales saw an increase by more than 90% during the COVID-19 crisis, reaching CHF 21mn in FY20 and contributing to global efforts to combat the effects of the global pandemic.

Mabuchi is a global manufacturer of DC brush motors for automobiles, electric appliances and other electric components and listed at the Tokyo stock exchange. The acquisition of Electromag is set to further expand the company’s business for wellness and healthcare applications and combine Electromag's cutting-edge solutions and technology with the global mass production capabilities of Mabuchi.

By leveraging Electromag's technologies and expertise in healthcare applications, Mabuchi will accelerate its priority initiatives and furthermore realize its vision to contribute to international society.

The transaction is expected to close by early July 2021.
