Natural river wave surfing is Andreas' sport. Discover what parallels he sees between his sport and his work in Financial Audit and what makes him go aheader. Get to know his story:
How did your passion for natural river surfing start?
I’ve been hooked on action sports since a very young age. First it was skiing. Then snowboarding. And finally surfing, which I can practice year round. Natural river wave surfing in Switzerland is my sport.
What do you like the most about surfing?
Although surfing is an individual sport, you never go alone due to safety precautions. With your trusted mates, you push each other – to surf the longest, to do a new trick first, and so forth. You analyse each other’s technique to boost individual progress.
I enjoy all aspects of it. First, the prep: analysing waterflows and weather, choosing a location, preparing the equipment, and putting together a crew. Second, the execution: refining your technique, learning new tricks, enjoying the feeling of gliding on the water. And finally, the celebration: unwinding after a surf, thinking about what went well and what you can improve next time, and sharing this with the crew.
What parallels do you see between surfing and your job in Financial Audit?
I definitely see parallels between surfing and work. As a new joiner in Financial Audit, I could take ownership of my development and career, learn to ask for and give appropriate, helpful feedback. I set up new engagements, assigned staff, scheduled dates and last minute changes. I tackle new challenges, constantly improve my skills and strive to perform at a high level. And of course, we celebrate together after completing an engagement.
I really appreciate having the opportunity to support a wide range of clients and thus shape the network for my career. As a senior associate now, I think independently and confidently about sharing my point of view with the team. We rely on each other's abilities and I’m sure this makes me a better and trusted member of ny team in Financial Audit.
