Leading organisations recognise the need to see risk in a different way. The partnership between Tanium and PwC can help them do exactly that.

In an era of constant and fast-paced change, strong risk and resilience capabilities are the difference between organisations that thrive and those that are simply fighting to survive. But building those capabilities requires a new approach to risk, with experts from across the organisation playing their part. Partnerships with trusted third parties will also be crucial.

The goal should be a proactive approach to preparing and adapting to risks that impact the organisation. That requires data and insight, so that the organisation is able to identify emerging dangers early. But it also requires access to a community of diverse thinkers from a range of disciplines – everyone from internal audit to tax compliance, and from cybersecurity and privacy to regulatory compliance – with the imagination to solve problems in new ways.

To add to the challenge, risk management now needs to happen in real time, providing leaders with the information they need to make smarter decisions more quickly. Technology and data are vital in expanding understanding of risk – and reducing the cost of compliance.

Leveraging the expertise and experience of key partners will be invaluable as organisations try to construct such an ecosystem. PwC’s partnership with Tanium is a good example of how such relationships can help organisations manage risk more effectively – and therefore become more resilient.

It’s a partnership that began in 2013 and has evolved ever since. It combines PwC’s deep expertise in cybersecurity and digital transformation with Tanium’s unified endpoint management and security platform, in order to help organisations better manage and secure the enterprise environment.

Services include:

  • Compromise Discovery Assessment – this is a short-term, proactive discovery exercise to identify threat activity within the organisation’s IT estate, as well as unwanted activity. That could be anything from high-severity targeted intrusions through to low-severity unwanted programs. For situations that require a sustained period of response activities, the partnership also provides rapid on-demand access to a global Cyber Incident Response team.
  • Cyber Hygiene Assessment – this provides ongoing insight into potential high-risk threat vectors and gaps in the visibility and control of the organisation’s IT estate. By gathering data from machines in the estate through Tanium, the service can answer questions around, for example, the number of unmanaged IT assets, how many computers are not running critical software, critical vulnerabilities within the landscape, and which patches will reduce risk most effectively. Together, Tanium and PwC provide a benchmark of more than 20 metrics.
  • PwC-developed Tanium Signals – working together, PwC and Tanium offer Tanium Signals, a subscription service enabling organisations to better identify and manage the risk of cyber attacks on their systems. The service is based on intelligence drawn from the real-life behaviours of threat actors, enabling Tanium Signals to assess hundreds of behavioural indicators of compromise; these are constantly added to as new threats and attack techniques emerge.

The PwC partnership with Tanium is just one example of what it takes to build a more holistic approach to risk management. Everyone has a role to play in changing the way we see risk.
